'Merchiston Celebrates 65th Cap'

Dear Merchistonians and Friends

Merchistonian Events

It was great to see everyone at the Merchistonian Annual Dinner last Friday; those who were there will know that Stephen Biggart (96-03) was the worthy winner of this year's Merchistonian Award.  Stephen's story will feature in the Club magazine.  To see photos from the evening click here

The Memorial Hall was packed once again for this year's Remembrance Service, at which the address was given by Lt Col Douglas Mackay. His Remembrance Day address may be read here. As per tradition, we made sure to get the annual father and son photograph.

On Sunday, School Chaplain, Revd Nick Blair spoke with Michael Paton (33-38), who might well be one of the last remaining Merchistonian WWII veterans. Michael passed on his best wishes to the School.

The London meet-up will be taking place on Monday.  For the 45 of you signed up, drinks will be taking place at the Cavalry and Guards Club from 6.30pm - do not forget it is a cash bar!

Next Friday Graeme Crossley (95-99) will be presenting at November's Edinburgh Business Breakfast at Indigo Yard, to find out more, click here

There are still a few spots left at the Rugby Supporters' Lunch on Saturday 26 November. Let me know if you would like to attend.

Merchistonian Visit

It was great to see Boon Low (76-77) back at the School with his family, on Tuesday.  See a photo here

Merchistonians in the Spotlight

Hear Fraser Brown (01-07) talk about rugby training and Merchiston in this new short film.

On Saturday Magnus Bradbury (11-13) will make his Scottish debut in the Autumn Test against Argentina at Murrayfield.  Magnus will be the 65th Merchistonian to play rugby at International level. Good luck Magnus, we will all be rooting for you.

Finally, the Scottish Schools' Cup semi-finals take place at School on Thursday, our U18 1XV take on Stewart's Melville College; at the same time, our U16 1XV go head to head with St Aloysius - kick-off 2.00pm. Come along to support the pupils at this family-friendly event.

Kind regards,

Gill Imrie
