"Hop to it!"

Dear Merchistonians and Friends

Bath Rugby Club - Sponsor Appeal

Douglas Crawford (09-14) and Benn Morris (09-16) are coming to the end of their tenure as chairman and vice-chairman respectively of the University of Bath Rugby Club, a year which has seen the club membership numbers exceed 400; the largest it has ever been. Recent leaver, Angus Hinton (07-17), joined the club this year.

Doug has been in touch seeking support from the Merchistonian community:

"There is quite a strong Merchi contingent forming in Bath now and we can usually all be found at the Rec on a Saturday cheering on Zach Mercer (13-15).

Alongside writing my dissertation, I'm currently in the process of organising our inaugural end of season alumni match and club dinner on Saturday 28 April, held in memory of our clubs recent Ex-Chairman George Stephenson who sadly lost his battle with cancer last year, aged 24. 'Stevo' was a popular and respected member of the rugby family at the university.

The dinner is being held at the historic Roman Bath Pump Rooms as a fundraiser for CLIC Sargent, the charity closest to George and his family. We are currently seeking sponsorship for the event, ranging from individual table sponsors, end of season award sponsors and two named partner sponsors. Additionally, we are looking for raffle prizes to present on the night. If you are interested in sponsoring and would like to find out more or would like to donate, then please contact me.  Any contribution, large or small, would be greatly appreciated and will go a long way to making the event a success."

March of the 1000 Headbands

"A huge thank you to all the Merchistonians who made it to the "March of the 1000 Headbands" which in reality proved to be far more, it certainly swelled beyond all expectations.  I caught a glimpse of a few Merchistonians in the square, and spoke to a few at the game and in Peroni Village afterwards.  It's brilliant to have such positivity to work with in these events, and true to form, there were some lovely comments and reactions to Saturday's event.

I thank all involved on behalf of the Doddie Gump team, and I would also encourage anyone who would still like to support, or continue to support, to visit the Justgiving page accessed through www.doddiegump.com

Thanks again, it's just been brilliant."  Ian Fraser (96-02)

Can you help? Summer Work Experience

Peter Milligan (12-17) has been enjoying his time at York, studying Biomedical Science.

"I need to gain some work experience over the summer. So far, I like Microbiology and Genetics best but would be very happy to gain experience in any field related to Biomedical Science (for example, Pharmacy, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, etc)."

If you can offer any support to Peter please get in touch to let us know.

Business Breakfast Speakers

We are looking for speakers for our 2018 Edinburgh Business Breakfasts!  What do you have to do?  Come along on the day and talk to a group of enthusiastic Merchistonians about your career, your company, a scheme you'd like to get off the ground, a project you have been working on , a charity you have been helping, a hobby which has turned in to something bigger…the floor is yours!  We organise the venue etc.  Contact us if you'd like more information and let's get you in the Merchistonian calendar.
