'Last Chance!'

Dear Merchistonians and Friends

What a kick-start to the day!  A huge thank you to Norman Walker (65-70) who hosted this morning's Business Breakfast at Indigo Yard. Norman held a great discussion about what it takes to get to the top of organisations. The next Business Breakfast will be on Friday 28 April, more details to follow.

This week you may have seen John Glen (83-90) appearing in the Herald; this follows the recent article featured in the Merchistonian Club Magazine.   Read John's thoughts on the Scottish textile industry here.

Congratulations go to Will Biggart (94-01) who recently proposed to Katy at the top of the Eiffel Tower.  She said yes!!!

If you did not receive the Merchistonian Club Magazine, it is now available to view online.

Merchistonian events

We only have a couple of tickets left for the London Pre-Calcutta Cup Dinner on Friday 10 March.  If you would like to be one of the lucky ones and join the 60 already booked in, click here now.

The Headmaster and Mrs Hunter will be visiting Dubai on Friday 17 March to network with parents, prospective parents and Merchistonians. If you are in Dubai and would be interested in joining them, please get in touch.

It's your last chance to submit nominations for the Merchistonian Award - these will be reviewed at the Club's AGM on Monday 13 March.  Please also let me know if you would like to join us at the AGM.

Merchistonian achievement

Hong Kong has once again been rated the world's freest economy, and the man most credited for establishing HK's economic freedom is Sir John James Cowperthwaite (28-33). Read the full story about the late John Cowperthwaite here.

Zach Mercer (13-15) has been named as the captain for the England U20 team!  We wish Zach luck for their match against Italy this evening.  England's U20 coach, Tom Williams, had some lovely words to say about Zach. Read more here.

Clifton Hall School Headmaster Rod Grant (78-83) has had his first book published on Amazon. Entitled 'Success Decoded', it is a self-help guide to future fulfilment. You can read an interview with Rod that appeared in the Edinburgh School Guide and buy his book here.

Merchistonian Club Sport Sections

Now that our Sailing Section is up and running, it is great to see some of you sharing plans.  If you would like to get on board take a look at our new section here

On Sunday the Club's golf team will take on Edinburgh Academy at Muirfield. Check out who is taking part here.  Whilst on the topic of golf, I am pleased to say that the team for the Halford Hewitt has been selected, and they will be playing against Harrow at Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club on Thursday 6 April. The Golf Captain and team would both appreciate your support at these matches so if you are in the area please pop by! To find out who is playing and to make sure you keep up to date with the team's progress on Twitter click here

Kind regards
