Dear Merchistonians and Friends
There isn't much left of January; are you sticking to your resolutions? I'll admit that the ceaseless gales and bitingly cold nights have had me delving into the Quality Street more often than I'd like.
However, others have been far more successful: players Sam Hidalgo-Clyne (06-11), Fraser Brown (01-07) and Coach Duncan Hodge (86-92) have all been selected for the
6 Nations squad. We'll be watching the games with pride!
We should also be proud of Merchiston's Golf Academy, which is competing in the ISGA Home Internationals. The four Schools that have qualified to play in this International did so by finishing top in their
country; this is the first time Merchiston has qualified to play in this prestigious event! A marvellous achievement.
James Caan, of Dragon's Den fame, was recently interviewed about 'soft skills' on Radio 4. Despite this cosy moniker, this means communication, teamwork, time management, decision-making and taking responsibility. It's clear that resilience
and enthusiasm makes university applicants stand out. Are there any Merchistonians out there who would take in a Merchi boy for some summertime work experience? If so, do let me know
Whilst still on business: our first Edinburgh Business Breakfast
is next week. So that I may have an idea of numbers, please
drop me a line if you're heading along. Don't forget: we'll be at Tigerlily on George Street, 8am.
Our London dinner and drinks Pre-Calcutta Cup event is being finalised as we speak - I'll be putting out the link to book your places this coming week. Keep an eye on
LinkedIn and Twitter!
Finally, on this day both Edvard Munch and Salvador Dali breathed their last. Conversely, it is also the day
Django Reinhardt was born. All astonishing artists, it is important to remember that life is cyclical and that it's worth doing what you love in the time that you have.
Until next week!
