The sun in Edinburgh has at last broken through. Dare I venture to believe that we're leaving the dreich winter season behind us?
I write this coming back from an inspirational talk given by Malcolm McGregor (76-82) for the
Edinburgh Business Breakfast group. You missed a good one. Malcolm's company, Broadreach Ltd, works with global businesses, coaching their executives and managers. He provided relevant and rousing advice to us on future trends, raising potential
and growing revenue. These breakfasts are a unique opportunity to network and meet old faces. Make sure to come along on 28 March; the renowned
Douglas Kinloch Anderson will be giving a talk called 'Breaking the Wall of China'. This promises to be a sell out, so let me know if you're planning to attend.
Bill Donaldson (44-49) came along to the whole school assembly this week. After leaving Merchiston, he returned to teach from 1955-73, becoming Housemaster from 1963-73. I'm sure he conjures fond memories for many of
you. Bill read from his third volume of poetry, Living Hope. Read his words
We have had wonderful responses to Mark Boyd's (87-90)
BAFTA win; Jonny Paterson (98-06) dropped me a line to say he'd won the BAFTA Los Angeles Newcomer in 2012. It appears that Merchistonians are enjoying more and more success in the arts, which is wonderful news.
With less than five weeks to go to The Merchistonians vs. The Accies FP rugby match, MRFC have released an exclusive new Polo shirt available for Match Day. Take a look at the new Rugby Revival addition
here. Dinner tickets are available
The Summer Holiday Activity Camps programme is up online
here. Take a look on Wednesday 5 March when the booking links go live.
A call to arms for any tennis fans amongst you: John Robb (67-72), our Tennis Sports Secretary, is looking for interested parties to sign up for the annual tennis match later this year. If you think you might want to
take part, contact John here.
For those of you playing in the golf Club Spring Meeting on Sunday, I hope the weather stays fair. Don't forget, this coming Tuesday is Pancake Day so stock up on lemon and sugar before it all runs out!
