A Full Summer Plate

Dear Merchistonians

The month of May is ready to greet us and with it, the anticipation of summer. The boys are all dressed in their cricket whites, playing on the bright green grass and daffodils are in bloom along the driveway. I hope such seasonal changes are as idyllic where you are.

I have some spectacular news to kick us off: The Merchistonian Golf Team has won the Halford Hewitt! This now marks our fourth triumph in the Deal golf event. It was a true victory in all senses of the word; hard-won, well deserved and with not a small amount of grit and determination. Read the full report from Sandy Corstorphine (59-64) here.

To rugby: The newly reformed Merchistonian RFC bounced back from the Rugby Revival match and won their first silverware last weekend, seeing off Linlithgow 43-17 in the Plate final at the North Berwick sevens. Let's hope this success is the first of many to come! Click here to see full report.

If you would be keen to get more involved with MRFC, we've teamed up with Moray House RFC to run touch sessions on a Tuesday night. All are welcome. Pop along to the Meadows at 6.30pm, between Jawbone and Middle Meadow Walk on Melville Drive. Bring your own boots.

The Headmaster and Mrs Hunter will be visiting the Middle East from 6-10 May. For those in the vicinity, we would like to extend an invitation to you to attend either of the Drinks Receptions in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, or for you to pass on an invitation to any contacts you may have in these areas who might like to find out more about Merchiston. Please email me here if you would like to know more.

Closer to home, we will be hosting a Merchistonian Aberdeen Gathering on Tuesday 6 May from 6pm at the Copthorne Hotel. With drinks and canap├ęs, it is a wonderful opportunity to meet old friends and new faces. Let me know here if you would be interested in attending.

Finally, today saw the Edinburgh Business Breakfast see one of its most successful mornings to date. Shane Corstorphine (89-97) bowled us over with his knowledge, enthusiasm and inspirational message. Indigo Yard was full to the brim with Merchistonians, which was truly great to see. Next month, current parent Peter Nicholson will be talking on "The Four Deadly Cultural Sins". Watch this space.

Kind regards
