The Captain's Weekend

Well done to Sandy Corstorphine (59-64) and David Hutchison (73-76) who won the knockout foursomes at The Captains Weekend at Muirfield.

Big Tech Predictions Blog

Euan Jennings (06-15)
has written a Big Tech Predictions Blog where he discusses the App Store cull, a re-surge in VR and retailers looking to improve their apps.

"In the ever-developing world of tech that we live and operate in, it's hard to predict what the next big change will be. Everyday new tech is being developed, refined or created from scratch and as consumers we only ever tend to see the end results. I compiled some interesting tech predictions and explored how I believe they will impact our evolving world."

Doddie Spinathon

On Saturday 7 July Roger Baird (73-78), Governor (05 - present), Iwan Tukalo and Rob Wainwright are holding a 24 hour Spinathon for the Doddie Foundation. The three gents will be doing the whole 24 hour stretch and are looking to encourage others to join in.

"The idea is to cycle the distance from Doddie's house to Joost van der Westhuizen's house over the course of the 24 hrs, using the mileage from all 31 bikes. It would be great to get a Merchistonian team taking a bike and seeing some of you doing the difficult late/early morning slots, see how far you can ride and how much you can raise."

Whether you can commit an hour or two, get a team together, or simply make a donation please do get involved. Each rider is to raise £100 in sponsorship for every hour they spend on the bike.  The Spinathon will be taking place at the David Lloyd Centre in Corstorphine from 10am.

It is time for a Silent Auction.

On Merchiston's most recent tour to New Zealand, Roddy Deans (Director of Rugby) enjoyed catching up with Former All Black Captain, Richie McCaw; one of Merchiston's most famous supporters.

Richie kindly agreed to sign one of the tour jerseys and now that jersey is up for auction in aid of the upcoming tour to South Africa, the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation and the Goedgedacht Orphanage in South Africa.

For the chance to get your hands on this unique piece of Merchi stash, submit your bid to rugby@merchistonians.co.uk. Deadline for bidding - Friday 15th June.

Happy Bidding and good luck!!

Mini Merchi Reunion

Great to see a group of you get-together to meet up with Geoff Chan (80-84), who was over from Hong Kong for mid-term.

L-R: Angus Greene (78-84), Andy Young (79-84), Michael Glynn (78-83), Frazor Murphy (77-83), Robin Scott (79-84), Geoff Chan (80-84), Edward Rowe (79-82) and David Arrundale (79-84)

Pedal for Prostate

Andrew Auld (86-91)
and Robert Auld (91-96) are cycling from England's most easterly point to Ireland's most westerly point from 18 to 22 June. The route that the gents will cycle is over 610 miles, and they are aiming to cover an average of 120 miles a day for five straight days. In other words, a long way!

"We are doing it to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK because 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer. We both know people who have suffered from this disease, who are either no longer with us or are fighting on. We hope that by raising some money and by raising awareness, we are able to help others similarly affected.

Having done charity rides in the past I know that the inspiration of receiving donations can be the real motivator to get you through when the times are tough and those pedals just won't go round."

Support the brothers by sponsoring them on their fundraising page.

Maison Jessiaume

"I am delighted to offer you a unique and very rare opportunity to buy some of Burgundy's greatest wines direct from our family's vineyard situated in the heart of the region.

After a few glasses of wine recently with my brother and discussing how expensive Burgundy wine has become, we thought it would be a good opportunity to try and get some of the few remaining wines we have left into people's hands in the most cost effective manner. The Murray family are fortunate enough to also own Cockburn's of Leith, Scotland's oldest Independent Wine Merchant established in 1796. They have kindly agreed to bring these wines over to the UK with no extra charge. Therefore buying these wines is genuinely as if you were buying them at the cellar door. The prices attached represent a 35% discount to normal retail prices."

7s in the City

MFC had a good run at the Edinburgh City 7s last weekend, only to lose to the Rex Club Red Kites in the semi-final.

The first Edinburgh City 7s tournament which was organised by Matthew Clark (07-13), Donald Crawford (06-11) and Cameron Coutts (07-14) was a great success and it will be even better next year! We will definitely be back.
