Dear Merchistonians and Friends
Week two as Club Secretary, it is May already but at last, the snow has gone from the Pentlands. After being dominated by the election over the last few weeks,
it is time to take a break from politics, put the kettle on and catch up on Merchistonian news.
Hot off the press - Bwani Junction will be returning to the School to make a special appearance alongside some of the School's talented rock musicians. The 'Rocks and Reels' event will take place in the Marquee on 25 June 2016. It will be a night not to be
missed so make sure you reserve your tickets. If you cannot wait until June and want to sample some Bwani Junction now you can hear them
In April we told you that Michael Ferndale (86-92)
was competing in the
Marathon des Sables
. Despite the worst that the Sahara could throw at him, Michael survived the gruelling multi-stage adventure. Congratulations to Michael for on his incredible achievement! It is not too late to show your support and help
Michael reach £20,000. You can do so
Another Merchistonian willing to put his body through the paces for charity is Alasdair Glennie (96-01).
Alasdair will be taking part in the
Scottish Islands Peaks Race
on 20 May 2016 with a team of family and friends. The race begins in Oban and covers 160 miles of sailing and 60 miles of running over Mull, Jura and Arran. Having finished in last place when he last took part in
the event with the School in 2000, he is hoping to do better this year and we wish him all the best. You can support Alasdair here
For anyone who is in or visiting Edinburgh, we would recommend taking the time to appreciate the exhibition of major unrealised projects in Edinburgh.
Rod Binns (85-92)
and the Edinburgh Architectural Association have co-curated the exhibition, which shows unbuilt major projects in Edinburgh from the last 250 years. It runs for a period of three weeks and is based at the Canongate. Full details

Graham Fisher (76-82)
Graham Hardie (81-86)
) to ensure your place.

Celebrating their 35 years since leaving School, Class of 81 will be meeting up for their
tonight. I look forward to meeting some more of you there, and will of course give you a full update in next week's newsletter. If any of you are in Edinburgh and able to pop in to say hello the reunion

from 5.30 pm and we would love to see you there.
I just want to remind everyone of the benefits of using 'Easyfundraising'
. Each time you shop online you could be raising a free donation for the School. All you need to do is sign up
. It is so simple and does not cost you anything.
