'New Meets Old(ish)'

Dear Merchistonians and Friends

New Meets Old(ish)

Current Captain of School meets Jonny Baird

Current Captain of School Luca meets his counterpart from ten years ago, Jonny Baird (00-06).

Class of '06 Reunion.  I know you all thoroughly enjoyed each other's company last weekend, and for those that made the School tour on Saturday, you all had fun reminiscing about your Merchiston days.  For those unable to make the events, here's what you missed. (Thanks to Richard Nicholls (00-07) for producing the video and Colin Cameron (75-79) for yet again another great night at The New Club!)  See photographs from the weekend here.

It was a pleasure to meet so many of you at the Golf Autumn Meeting on Saturday. A  big congratulations to all of the winners.  For a full update on the day's tournament and evening events click here.  See photographs from the evening here.

Events

With four weeks to go, now is the time to book your spot for The Merchistonian Annual Dinner. You know the score, further details and booking click here.

Your Business Breakfast this month is at a Highland Experience Tours depot, with Managing Director Michael Bremner (87-90). If you can join us on Friday 28 October 8.00am - 9.00am, please send me an email.

Merchiston's Admissions and External Relations Managers are hosting personal appointments in Dubai between Thursday 27 October and Saturday 29 October 2016.  If you, or anyone you know would like to arrange a personal appointment to meet with them, email Megan White, External Relations Assistant.

Making a difference

For those who remember the late Euan Barley (92-95), his widow Laura Barley is trekking the Great Wall of China next October for Meningitis Now; a charity that helped her after Euan tragically lost his life to the disease earlier this year.  To support Laura - you can do so here.

Last Sunday, the School welcomed Olivia Giles, OBE as guest speaker at the Harvest Festival Service.  After falling ill with meningitis, and facing the life changing effects of the disease, Olivia committed herself to helping others through her charity "500 Miles".

Not to be out done, on Wednesday Nathan Bond (94-02) climbed 8,300 feet to the summit of Mont Brevent in Chamonix in aid of the homeless charity 'Streets of London'.  You can read Nathan's story here.

Sport

Well done to Callum Hill (11-13) on his record-tying round at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational golf competition on Monday.

And for the Class of '06 (and of course the rest of you) your weekend has officially begun!

Kind regards,
