A twelfth of the year has blown through already but with the wild gales of this weekend, lots of news has come to my desk from near and far. Across the globe, we see fellow Merchistonians getting set for their big matches.
Tonight, Fraser Brown (01-07) has been picked to start for the
Scotland A team (7.30pm KO) against England Saxons. You can watch the match, live online,
Magnus Bradbury (11-13) will be heading to Dublin as he has been selected to the
Scotland U20 squad for the 6 Nations. Full story
Against the backdrop of the Scottish cricket team qualifying for the 2015 World Cup and the ICC awarding Cricket Scotland the best development programme in Europe, Chris Sole (07-12) flew out to Sri Lanka yesterday for a two week training
camp yesterday as part of Scotland's preparation for the U19s Cricket World Cup in Dubai. Follow their news on
Even further around the globe, Russell Weir (02-08) and James Johnstone (02-08) have arrived in Wellington and are getting ready for next week's matches as part of the
Sevens World Series. Full report
here. If you make it along to any of the Series, do send in your photos.
Thank you to all who have booked their tickets to the post-Merchistonians v Academicals Dinner on Saturday, 29 March 2014 at Murrayfield. It's great to see tables being reserved, filled and the Merchistonian community
getting behind the MRFC's efforts and initiative. If you would like to come, you can book
here. You can tell us which group/table (of 10) you would like to join on the second screen (click through 'Order Now').
Don't miss out on this memorable celebration.
Thank you, also, to all who have written in with their
Internationalist names and stories. In case you missed my reminder last week and there are more to join us from the woodwork- we are looking for Merchistonians who have represented their country: either in a sporting or academic capacity.
If you have, or know peers who have, please do let us know. Our records are good but by no means complete and we are trying to fill in the gaps ahead of an event in the summer term, which will celebrate this history of excellence from Merchistonians.
Gentlemen, with this, I quietly conclude my last email to you. I head off next Friday to become a mother (I feel this role has given me good training) and the acting Club Secretary will be Ms Amy McGoldrick; I trust you will treat her
gently and keep her on the straight and narrow! Thank you for all your correspondence and interaction in the past two years which has made my time highly rewarding, inspiring and entertaining.
For now, all the best.
