Tern on a Tigerlily

Dear Merchistonians and Friends

Here we are! Hello to you all. Let's start as we mean to go on, shall we?

To kick us off, I have a kit update for you from the MRFC. Due to last year's demand for kit orders and the long delivery times, we have teamed up with PSL Team Sports, who have stores in Edinburgh and Glasgow. This means you can now buy your MRFC kit over the counter, or online! Marvellously simple.

Sam Hidalgo-Clyne (06-11) certainly made sure 2015 started with a bang when he put in a superb performance with Edinburgh Rugby against Glasgow Warriors, ending a run of six defeats to win 20-8! Find out more here. Magnus Bradbury (11-13) has also just earned a 2-year professional contract and has been selected for Scotland's U20 6 Nations squad! Terrific news. Find the full story here.

On the subject of rugby: the Club is now in possession of all 6 Nations home tickets, so we shall be sending those out very soon. We're still waiting on the away tickets, so it's going to take a little bit longer for those to get out to you. If you do have any concerns, you can talk to Jo here.

A date for your diary: Robbie Mitchell (85-90) has set up a Merchistonian Golf Day at Denham Golf Club on Friday 5 June 2015. If you're interested, details of the event can be found here.

Hearty congratulations must surely go to David Strachan (65-70), whose production company Tern TV has been filming Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance for four months. Together with Sky, they've created Sky 1's Air Ambulance ER. For more information, take a look here.

With a new month comes a new Business Breakfast opportunity; please let it be known I'd like to see lots of fresh new faces attending this month's meeting at Tigerlily on Friday 30 January, 8pm. Pay £5 for the chat and the breakfast is free…

2015 is a new year, bringing with it new potentials for Merchistonian of the Year. If you would like to send any names in early, let me know at the usual address. Please note that your nomination should be someone who has done much for the School and who really exemplifies the high Merchistonian standard.

Remember: today is the 8th anniversary of the first iPhone. Engineers were terrified it would fail; Steve Jobs was wracked with nerves - but look what it's done to the industry in less than a decade. Don't be afraid to let your ideas gain traction this year!

Kind regards

Amy
