'Merchistonian News'

Dear Merchistonians and Friends

Dates for your diary

With six weeks to go, it is good to hear how many of you are planning on attending The Merchistonian Annual Dinner. For those that need reminding, the event is on Friday 11 November, at MacDonald Holyrood Hotel. Don't miss out, book here

The first Rugby Supporters Lunch is taking place on Saturday 29 October, with a change of opposition for the 1XV, 2XV and 3XV who are now playing Strathallan in the first round of the Scottish Schools Cup - even more reason to join us. If you would like to come along for lunch in the Old Library before supporting all the teams, let me know.

The School now has a video to promote the Merchiston Information Morning on Saturday 29 October.  Please share this with anyone that may be interested in a Merchiston education for their son.

Congratulations to…

Simon Carpenter (97-03) who has uprooted himself and is branching out as a tree surgeon for TD Tree and Land Services Ltd.  I hope that being outdoors and 'leafing' the office is everything that you hoped it would be. (Anyone see what I did there?)

Omar Ali (08-09) for securing a graduate job with RBS next year.

Duncan Hodge (86-92) on being appointed to Acting Head Coach at Edinburgh Rugby - good luck to him and the team as they take on Connacht tonight.

Thanks to...

Kenny Campbell (84-90) for his fantastic presentation at our Edinburgh Business Breakfast this morning. It was also a pleasure to see a couple of new faces in attendance. Next month, be sure to come along and hear Michael Bremner (87-90), Managing Director of Highland Experience Tours Ltd. Friday 28 October - find out more here.

School update

As you may know, the Care Inspectorate and Education Scotland visited the School this week.  This was the final phase of a rigorous inspection cycle and I am delighted to let you know that the School received extremely positive verbal feedback.  I will let you know when the final reports are published.

Apologies to Richard Ireland (65-70) whom I mentioned in last week's news.  Richard exhibits work at the Edinburgh Art Fair from artists at his former gallery 'Hanover Fine Arts' and not from the National Gallery of Modern Art.

Kind regards,
