Dear Merchistonians and Friends
Another beautiful day in Colinton has set us up for a lovely weekend. It's
three degrees currently and it gives the air an alpine clarity. Can you tell I'm in a good mood?
Keeping up the enthusiasm and motivation: there will be the annual Merchistonians v. the School tennis match on Friday 22 May 2015. If any of you - especially recent leavers! - are keen to get on the court, channel Andy Murray and show the
schoolboys how it's done, let me know
One recent leaver is Rory Mackinnon (06-14), who is volunteering in Ecuador. He is in a small town in the Andes, repairing a damaged football field, harvesting vegetables with families and learning Spanish. Take a look at his progress here
or, if you fancy 'doing good' around the globe, get in touch with 'Take The Leap'
Elsewhere, the Headmaster and Barbara are undertaking a whistle-stop tour to five cities in the
Middle and Far East in early March. Do let us know if you would like to attend the Drinks Parties they have planned; formal invitations will be dropping into your inbox soon if we are aware you are in the area. If you happen to be travelling
to any of these places, you would also be very welcome!
Dubai: 3, 4, 5 March (Drinks Party at The Address Montgomerie, Emirates Hills - 4 March)
Singapore: 6, 7, 8 March (Drinks Party in Hotel Fort Canning, 7 March)
Hong Kong: 9, 10 March (Drinks Party in The China Club, 9 March)
Abu Dhabi: 11 March (Drinks Party in the Shangri-la Hotel, Qaryat Al-Beri)
Doha: 12 March (Drinks Party in the Radisson Blu, Salwa Road, hosted by Gordon and Margaret Mackenzie, stalwart supporters of the School)
If you know of anyone who may be contemplating a Merchiston education for their sons, or a boarding education in the UK, do pass on the details of this these events, and let us know so that we can send a formal invitation and offer a personal appointment with
To golf: Golf Club Secretary Rob Forman (89-94) has put together the mail-out so that you can get your golf off to a good start. For those of you who are already members, the letters will be sent to you next week. For any interested parties,
take a look here and sign up today!
To rugby: book here for our Pre-Calcutta Dinner in London! Places are strictly limited so get in quick. Our
6 Nations tickets for England are still yet to arrive, but we will let you know as soon as they're ready. Thank you for your patience!
This morning saw the 2015's first Business Breakfast start off fantastically. Thank you to all those who attended - next month, Alistair Macleod (53-57) will be at Indigo Yard discussing his latest venture - hovercrafts!
Don't miss out.
Lastly, as you all know by now, I love my music and moments in history. Happily, today combines the two! On this day in 1969, the Beatles gave
their last public performance with an impromptu concert from the roof of Apple's headquarters in London.
On that toe-tapping note, have a wonderful weekend.
