"This week, unravelled - Merchistonian News"

Dear Merchistonians and Friends

Dates for your Diary:

London Drinks

Your London representative, Will Biggart (94-01) is currently working hard to find the best venue for the 2018 London get-together. We thought summer drinks would be best, so block out Thursday 9 and Thursday 16 August. We will be in touch to confirm the chosen date and venue soon.

Merchistonian Annual Dinner

What better weekend to be in Edinburgh than Friday 9 - Sunday 11 November?

Kick the weekend off with drinks in Indigo Yard and an informal Merchistonian dinner. Your dinner will take place at La P'tite Folie, a great new venue for the Merchistonian Dinner! Rally up your friends, it's about time for a get-together! Find out more and get your ticket here.

On Saturday 10 November Scotland will be taking on Fiji in the Autumn Internationals at Murrayfield so there's even more of a reason to be in Edinburgh!  We will be taking requests for Autumn International tickets soon.

Finally, you can finish the weekend off by watching 100 Merchiston and Merchistonian Pipers and Drummers parade together at the School on Sunday 11 November.  If you are a piper or drummer and would like to take part in the parade, let me know

Business Breakfast Reminder

In the run up to Brexit, Eoghan Mackie (89-95) will talk about his organisation, Challenges Worldwide. Their latest offering is to provide support for UK business and social enterprise to access Africa. Join us on Friday 25 May at 8.00am. To find out more and book your spot, click here.

Beating Retreat Ceremony

On Wednesday 23 May the Combined Cadet Force is returning to the esplanade at Edinburgh Castle for the Beating of the Retreat ceremony, hosted by Merchiston Castle School.

Thirteen Scottish schools will parade and play in a colourful pageant of military music and precision drill by the Massed Pipes and Drums of the Combined Cadet Force in Scotland. There will be an area for the public to enjoy the display, with the magnificent backdrop, so come along and join us from 7.45pm.

Thank you for Visiting
Grant Robertson (66-70)

It was great to see Grant and his wife, Margaret last week. On their way to St Andrews to spend a few days with their children, they decided to pop by having not been back since leaving school.

If you are in the area or are planning a trip to Edinburgh over the summer months, get in touch to arrange a tour!

Merchistonians v Lorretonians

"At Muirfield on Sunday 13 May the Merchistonian team took on the Lorretonians in their annual match. The Merchistonian team was Will Lindsay (87-94), Sandy Robertson (75-81), Robert Forman (89-94), PK Young (77-81), Alastair Milligan (58-63), Martin Stein (84-89), Niall Ballantyne (82-87), Colin Barbour (78-83) and Charles Abram (65-69).
In the morning matches, and in initial damp conditions, Will and Sandy won their match 1 up, Robert and PK won their match 3 in 2, Niall and Colin won their match 1 up and Alistair and Martin half their match having been 3 down with 3 to play.
