Merchiston Take Over the Pitch
Last weekend Merchiston had 12 representatives on pitches ranging from the Scotland U18 to the full Scotland team, with a further three being selected to play for the Scotland U16 team next month. Six pupils were playing in the Scotland U18 match,
Stafford McDowall (14-16)
and Finlay Richardson (12-17)
both played for Scotland U20 and
Fraser Brown (01-07)
and Tiziano Pasquali (10-11)
played at an international level for Scotland and Italy retrospectively. What an amazing achievement!
All the way from Costa Blanca
Chris Shorter (64-67)
has been in touch to say that he is delighted to hear about the 50 year reunion in May which he plans to attend. Chris has been enjoying a one year travel sabbatical, dedicated to ticking off his bucket list of people, rather
than places, who have enriched him greatly over the years. Twelve countries so far! Part of that list is the Merchiston Reunion for his 1967 generation.
"My three years at Merchiston were the happiest days of my education. Incredible staff, superb atmosphere, and inspirational academically as well as in my sporting exploits. As a senior prefect, I was Captain of Swimming and Fencing (Scottish Schoolboys) and
belonged as well to the top shooting and athletics teams. In the Houses, I served under the hilarious, talented and amazingly eccentric IVBP and the avuncular MSP, who encouraged me to launch a lifelong career in the world of education."

South West of Scotland
Calling all Merchistonians in the South West of Scotland! We're looking for a new area representative …what does that involve you ask? Being there for any passing through Merchistonians, on the other side of the phone or keyboard should someone want
to get in contact, arranging annual casual drinks, providing us with a short update for the annual magazine, offering any career advice or putting Merchistonians in contact with someone from your network. If that sounds like you then please
A big thank you to David Fulton (67-72)
for all that you have done whilst you have been the South West of Scotland Representative.
Prepare to be Squashed
Brilliant news for all squash lovers, Andy Duff (76-79)
has introduced a Squash Section to the Club. Along with Andy, Rod Binns (85-92), Ruaridh Kohler (74-80), Harvey Kane (07-14), Duncan Hodge (86-92)
and Craig Smith (95-03)
took part in the inaugural match against the School and the groups' experience showed as they won the majority of the games. Click here for the full report. If you would like to get involved with the latest
Club initiative please get in touch.
Catch of the Day
Current pupil, Fraser M,
will be finishing his journey at Merchiston this summer but before going to study Applied Psychology (hopefully at Glasgow) he would like to spend some time on the open seas! He's thinking along the lines
of being a trawler man or working on a cruise ship but angling for the former. Do we have any Merchistonians who can help Fraser? Please
get in touch
if you can.
Rifle and Clay - We Win the Day!
Great news - The Merchistonian team won both the clays and rifle shoots last Saturday!
"On Saturday 10 of March the annual Merchistonian Clay and Rifle competition took place against the School.
We kicked off early at Cluny Clays in Fife on a very wet morning but both pupils and Merchistonians were all very keen to get the days' challenge underway. Some 11 Merchistonians and 15 boys were shooting."

Remembrance 2018 - 100 pipers and drummers
Current pupil, James L,
wrote to the Headmaster after the 2014 Remembrance Service (when he was in Pringle) with a super idea to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ending of WW1 at the School's Remembrance Service this year with
100 Merchiston pipers and drummers parading. Are you a piper or a drummer? Help to make up the 100 by emailing us on
. Please read James' words
If you cannot attend the service at Merchiston you can send a photo of yourself playing pipes next to a war memorial.
International Honours for the Merchiston Golf Academy
The Merchiston Golf Academy will have 4 pupils in this year's ISGA Scottish Schoolboys U15 team. The international match, which is played against the English U15 Schoolboys team, will take place at Collingtree Park, Northampton, on Saturday 7, Sunday
8 and Monday 9 April. The format is 2 ball foursomes, 4 ball foursomes and finishing with, the deciding singles matches on the Monday. It is sure to be an exciting event with some of the UK's top U15 boys competing in the Coda international match. We look
forward to seeing all the boys in their international blazers and ties at the opening ceremony. Good luck to the whole Scottish Schoolboys' Team.
