"Making History- Merchistonian News"

Dear Merchistonians and Friends

Record-Breaking Win

Congratulations to Chris Sole (07-12) and the whole Scotland Cricket team on their victory against England last weekend. Over 60 pupils were there to witness a memorable victory. Cricket in Scotland is alive and kicking!

Chris visited Merchiston last week as he is the latest full internationalist to go up in the WW1 pavilion.

Zelda the Magnificent

Simon Carpenter (97-03) has found a fantastic illustrator for his children's book, 'Zelda the Magnificent'.

"I am raising funds to publish a children's book about a pug called Zelda who gets separated from her family and the various adventures that ensues around the city of Edinburgh.

Please dig deep and donate as much as you can. I would really appreciate it and it would mean the world to me."

MFC v Accies Update

The match last Saturday saw Merchistonians come together from far and wide to support the Old Boys' team.

PK Young (77-82), Craig McLaren (74-79), Grant McGillan (77-81), Graeme Dick (76-81), Joe Duncan (75-81) and Angus Cartwright (76-80). Stuart Riddell (76-81) also joined the group but had to leave early.

Lionel Wilson (83-87), Adrian Smith (83-87), Simon Holmes (80-87), Craig McQueenie (80-87) and Andrew McGill (84-85).

Unfortunately, the Academicals took home the trophy with the final score being 48-24. Report to follow, take a look at the photographs here.

Hugh's Refill Tour

Hugh Walker (68-73) is currently cycling round the UK coastline to raise awareness and encourage us all to stop using single use plastic bottles. Hugh is asking cafes to sign up to be a tap water refill station. He left Liverpool a month ago and is now north of Poolewe and enjoying Scotland's best summer in living memory!

He will pass through Edinburgh and visit his cousin, Norman Drummond (65-70), and hopefully stop off to see us at Merchiston.

Putting New South Wales on the Map

A big thank you to Grant McCorquodale (78-84) who has recently stepped down as your New South Wales representative.

So we are now looking for a representative in NSW…what does that involve you ask?  Being there for any passing through Merchistonians, being on the other side of the phone or keyboard should someone want to get in contact, arranging annual casual drinks, providing us with a short update for the annual magazine, offering any career advice to Merchistonians or putting them in contact with someone from your network.  If that sounds like you, then please reply.
