'Winning Streak'

World Book Day, visiting pupils enjoying a day of maths challenges, and the U16s winning the Scottish Schools Shield against St Aloysius College, it's been another busy week at School.
Congratulations to the winning U16s.

For prospective pupils  - perhaps second generation Merchistonians - there will be a School Information Morning on Saturday 19 March from 10am.  More information here.

We now have confirmed details for Merchistonian drinks with the Headmaster and Mrs Hunter in Hong Kong.  If you haven't already been in touch, please email us if you would like to join them at the Peak Café Bar, Soho, from 6.30pm.

We also heard this week of two Merchistonians enjoying rugby down-under.  Alexander Ogilvy (10-15) and Dan Nutton (05-15) were both playing 1XV Colts for Easts (Eastern Suburbs) rugby club in Sydney.  Looking rather warmer than Merchiston!

In international rugby, there was Merchistonian pride in seeing Hugh Fraser (12-14) converting a try during the Scotland U20s victory over Italy last Friday.  Great job!

And in Curling, on 20 February 2016, Hamilton McMillan (04-10) playing for Team Brewster was part of the winning team that took the title of Scottish Curling Champions beating the Olympic Team silver medallists lead by David Murdoch.  A great victory. Full report here.

BREWSTER

For Merchistonians in Canada, the 11th Merchistonian Sailing Regatta takes place on 8 April after a dinner at The Maple Bay Marina on Vancouver Island which starts at 7pm.   Canada, USA and Scotland have representatives so far.  Anyone else interested should contact Chris Reid (55-59) by e-mail at  chrisreid@careerwiseonline.com

We are still seeking a summer placement for a law student, one of our young Merchistonians.  If anyone can help, or provide a contact to be followed up, please let us know.

Finally, if you are buying a very late gift for the mum in your life (Mother's Day in UK is this Sunday) then you might find something, as well as helping the School, if you buy through Easyfundraising.  No cost to you, funds to the School - simple, and thank you.

Kind regards
