"Hatches, matches, in our dispatches"

Dear Merchistonians and Friends

Hip Hip Hooray

Cameron Coats (09-14) has recently graduated (with a 1st Class Hons degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering) from Northumbria University and is now developing, designing and programming autonomous 'icarts' for a specialist company in Gateshead. Cameron recently popped the question to his (now) fiancée, Beth and they have set up home in the North East. Congratulations all round to Cameron and we look forward to seeing you at the Club's NE England events.

HELP! Class of '66-'70 Reunion

We have seen a brilliant response to the suggestion of a get-together for the Classes of '66, '67, '68, '69 and '70 on Saturday 19 May. Unfortunately there are some that we have lost touch with and we would love to let them know about the event.  Click here to see if you can help, and to book your ticket if you have not already!

Bite the bullet

The annual Clay and Rifle Day takes place on Saturday 10 March. The day kicks off at Cluny Clays, followed by lunch and a match against the pupils in the Miller Range.  Post shoots, the gents will enjoy a meal and some beers in town.  If you would like to join Richard Macmillan (81-87) and the team please let Richard know.

International Call-Ups

Well done to Tom Sole (09-14), who made his first international cricket debut for Scotland on Tuesday, a good performance from Tom, although unfortunately the overall result didn't go Scotland's way.

Zach Mercer (13-15) and Magnus Bradbury (11-13) have been called up for the England and Scotland rugby squads, respectively, for the upcoming 6 Nations tournament.  Congratulations to them both!

Curious Vacancy

If you have been following the progress of the Secret Garden Gins you'll be interested to read that they are looking for someone motivated, highly organised, with an interest/passion for plants, and great communication skills to work alongside Hamish Martin (79-86) to help build and establish the brand in Scotland.

Previous experience in the trade is not a necessity, but owning your own car is. Please send CV and covering email to Hamish.

A Dream Job - Illustrator Required

Having been unimpressed with the story books he has read to his 3 year old, Simon Carpenter (97-03) has identified a gap in the market. Simon has written a children's story based on his pug; the book will be called "Zelda the Magnificent and her Adventures in the Park". Simon just needs an Edinburgh based illustrator to make his dream a reality!

You can get in touch with Simon by email or give him a call on 07972 928 098.

Business Breakfast

Next Friday, Simon Hannah (88-95) from Flavourly.com will be joining us at Rabble to speak about "Diversifying for the next generation", find out more here.  We hope to see you on Friday 26 JanuaryEmail us to let us know if you can make it.

7s in the City

Matthew Clark (07-13), Donald Crawford (06-11) and Cameron Coutts (07-14) are organising
an invitational rugby 7s tournament at Inverleith Park on Saturday 2 June.
As well as all the matches, they will have a beer tent offering live music and DJs throughout the day, a prosecco garden, food stalls, pop-up shops, other entertainment, and the event will conclude with an after-party to round off the day/night.

For more details and to get involved, email Matthew.

Merchiston Centrefold

It was great to see Duncan Brown (98-02) featuring in Merchiston's double page spread in the Herald Independent Schools' Guide, January 2018.

September in Seoul

Parent of two Merchistonians, Professor Stephen Ho, who also plays a huge part in the School's Far East recruitment, was delighted to be invited to the wedding of David Jung (03-07). Professor Ho is pictured with David and his brother Chris Jung (05-10) on David's big day.

Best wishes

Gill, Merchistonian Club Secretary
