Summer Bowtie Struggles

Dear Merchistonians

With the music from Pringle's Prize Giving resonating throughout the School, the Upper Sixth are dusting off their dinner jackets and struggling with bow ties for tonight's Leaver's Ball. Another 77 joining the Merchistonian ranks. Remember how that felt?

Thanks must go in particular to Graham Eden (71-73), who gave a wonderful presentation at the Business Breakfast yesterday. Having experimented with a shift to Thursday mornings, it would appear that Fridays are easier for the majority of you. The next meeting is in September, so if you'd like to take part yourself and present to Merchistonians and current parents, pop me a message here.

With regard to our summer fixtures, there will be Golf Club matches against Lorettonians at Muirfield (6 July), as well as against Old Glenalmond and Fettesians at Panmure (24 August). For all Golf Club members, a reminder that Elie's Autumn Meeting will take place on 13 September. If you get the chance, head along and show your support.

Roger Baird (73-78) has been regularly updating his Walking Wounded cycle journey on Twitter. Despite some fragile mornings he's going strong and in the process has so far raised over £4,000. Superb stuff.

I'm leaving on a jet plane to embark upon my summer travels, so this will be the last newsletter from me until the School year begins anew. Rest assured, I will be back in the office in two weeks' time, so if you have any news, ideas or magazine stories, just give me a call.

Take care of yourselves, wear sunscreen and have a wonderful summer!

Kind regards
