'Step Back'

Make time in your life to step back for a moment.

It's a mantra that many of us should live by, but don't, but it was the valuable message given by The Reverend Professor Norman Drummond CBE FRSE (65-70) yesterday evening.  The long line of boys queuing to meet him afterwards was a clear indication of how engaging, and how relevant, they considered his message.

It will be Professor Roy Robertson MBE LVO (64-69) who will be speaking at this month's Business Breakfast which is only 2 weeks away on 24 March 2016.  Please note that, exceptionally, this event will be on THURSDAY, as the following day is Good Friday.

A reminder that there will be a School Information Morning on Saturday 19 March.  If you would like to consider the School for a new generation of Merchistonians please get in touch with our colleagues in Admissions

With the Headmaster heading for Hong Kong next week, we also happened to hear this week from Wan Chung Chan (90-92) who is loving his new blazer. If anyone else would like a Merchistonian blazer we can supply you with the cloth to take to your own tailor.  Very smart!

Some of you might like to take time and step back to appreciate the art at Jason Cordingley's latest exhibition which continues to run at the Flaubert Gallery Edinburgh until 27 March. Ten percent of any sale will be donated to the School's Sports Appeal.

Or if rugby is your time out, it's the Merchiston 7s tournament this Saturday 12 March.  First kick off is due at 1.30pm with the Final due to start around  4.10pm. All are welcome.

On Sunday 13 March, we hope that both Fraser Brown (01-07) (back from injury) and Sam Hidalgo-Cline (06-11) won't be doing too much stepping back in the Six Nations match against France.  Good luck.

Thank you for the responses to our survey which will allow the Club to continue to develop for the benefit of its members.

And although it's not quite a step back, with the death of George Martin this week, I thought it apt to end with a link to one of the Beatles songs.  'Get back to where you once belonged.'

Kind regards
