Dear Merchistonians and Friends
In January the Headmaster and Mrs Hunter will be visiting prospective parents in Hong Kong, to promote the School. Please do let me know if you are in Hong Kong and would like to meet them for drinks on Wednesday 11 January from 6.30pm at The China Club.
At the end of September, the Headmaster wrote to you following a very positive return inspection visit from both Education Scotland and the Care Inspectorate. You can read more about this here.
Stuart Riddle's (76-81) Christmas Ceilidh for Maggie's Centres takes place this Saturday; you can get in touch with him here if you would like to join in with the festive fun. Alternatively you can support the event by donating here.
I am delighted to say that, through a Merchistonian connection, we have secured an exciting new venue for the London Pre-Calcutta Cup Dinner. Find out more and book your ticket here.
Merchistonians in the Spotlight
See Jamie Mayer (91-95) discussing the new sports facilities at Merchiston in this new short film.
The BBC series 'The River' gives an insight into life along the River Tweed. Robert Wilson (90-95) and his farm, Cowbog Farm, are featured in episode four. Robert stars alongside his father Ron and daughter Lottie. It is not too late to watch the episode here.
Antoine Magre (10-14) and Dougal Balfour (06-14) are both doing very well in sport at Cambridge University. Dougal was part of the Blues Rugby squad that took on Oxford at Twickenham and won for the first time in seven years! Antoine was in the ski team that unfortunately recently lost to Oxford in Val Thoren.
There is a great new post on Merchinomics from current pupil, Douglas. In the past, Merchistonians have enjoyed reading and commenting on such posts.
Frank Hadden, the School's former Director of Rugby, visited Merchiston last week to congratulate the pupils on their win at the Scottish Schools' Red Conference. You can read Frank's speech here.
Good to see Sam Hidalgo-Clyne (06-11) back in Edinburgh's starting line-up and congratulations on his Saturday Man of the Match award against Stade Francais.
This is our last newsletter of 2016. The Club President, the Development Director, Louise and I wish you all a very happy and peaceful Christmas and look forward to continuing the conversations in 2017.
