Dark Side of the Moon

Dear Merchistonians and Friends

It brought the boys and teachers out from classrooms and a huge cheer went up as the eclipse reached its maximum for Colinton. It was a special moment to be in School and I suspect one that will live long in their memories.

It might have been another loss for Scotland last Saturday but it was preceded by an entertaining evening in London on Friday 13th. Thank you to Frank Hadden for his talk which highlighted Merchiston's contribution to the Scottish game. Photos of the evening
where Andrew McDonald (79-85) auctioned his blazer are
here
.

It was another great win for Merchiston at last weekend's golf match at Elie. The match report is
here.

Congratulations to Magnus Bradbury (11-13) who takes up the captaincy for Scotland U-20s tonight. Watch Patrick Kelly (10-14) and the rest of the team in a short video
here.

This Sunday, 4 Merchiston boys will, for the first time, represent Scotland in the
Independent Schools Golf Association Home Internationals. We wish them the very best of luck and you can find more information on the competition
here.

Next Friday, join us for the Edinburgh Business Breakfast, 27 March, 8-9am at the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian. Current parent and General Manager Dale MacPhee will guide us through the re-positioning of the hotel to achieve its
luxury award winning status. Places are limited so book
here
.

From 12:30 the following day, Saturday 28 March, come and support the Merchistonians v Edinburgh Academicals rugby match at Raeburn Place, Edinburgh - there'll be fun for all the family. More information
here. For the latest MRFC sporting apparel click
here.

Anyone for tennis? The Merchistonian team is looking for 4 or 5 more players for
22 May to take on the School team. Please contact
John Robb
(67-72) if you are able to join him.

I leave you with a quote from UN Secretary- General Ban Ki-moon remarks about today's International Day of Happiness 'Happiness is a serious business.'
The Guardian this week has been wondering what songs would lift its readers' spirits. What's on your list?

Kind regards

Jo
