A Breakfast Pilgrimage

Dear Merchistonians and Friends

I suspect this week's e-newsletter is interrupting your avid attendance/discussion/TV-watching of the Ryder Cup. Flocks of eager tourists and hordes of excitable Scots are making the pilgrimage up to Gleneagles. Are any Merchistonians up there, hoping for Team Europe to retain the title? Perhaps the players' theme tunes will carry us in good stead.

More locally - the Annual Dinner is selling out! Our pilgrimage to The New Club, Princes Street is certainly smaller than the above (but no less compelling). Please do book your seats as soon as you can to avoid being left out in the cold on Friday 21 November. Click here to get either yourself or a group of Merchistonians on the list.

To education: if you're considering the School for your son, or you know someone who is, the Headmaster is hosting a couple of events for prospective parents. You can meet pupils, current and former parents and staff at Abbotsford House, Melrose on Friday 3 October and Hotel du Vin, St. Andrews, on Thursday 9 from 6.30pm. Drop me a line here if you'd like to come along to either evening.

To business: talented Merchistonian and Halford Hewitt golf aficionado Michael Rolland (98-03) has been in touch, as he has recently been promoted to Business Director within Michael Page. For those of you thinking of making a potential career move and you need some advice, Michael is keen to hear from you. Please email him here or give him a ring on 07554438373.

Can you help your School? Merchiston has been approached by the Education Supplement for a few alumni responses to the question: Why were your School days 'the best days of your life'? Sensible answers only, please - just send your reply here.

Finally, I would like to extend a big thank you to Rod Binns (85-92), for his fantastic presentation at our Edinburgh Business Breakfast this morning. It was also a pleasure to see a couple of new faces in attendance. Next month, be sure to come along to GilsonGray, the new company created by Matthew Gray (79-85). Listen to a successful entrepreneur in action!

Kind regards

Amy
