From Icy Mont Blanc to Sizzling Islands

Dear Merchistonians and Friends,

Our second newsletter of the Autumn Term! We are now two thirds of the way through 2014. How did this happen!? I hear you gasp. Well, the boys have been back at School for a week now and they are still buzzing with excitement and energy; we must endeavour to do the same!

Graeme Murray (69-73) is one such driven Merchistonian. Currently he is climbing to the summits of Monte Rosa and Mont Blanc for charity; a fantastic feat. If you would like to donate to his cause, click here. To see the adventurer on his click, be sure to take a look at this!

If you are enjoying far sunnier climes in the Cayman Islands, you'll be interested to know that Nick Quin (95-00) has organised a get-together on Friday 23 October. Believe it or not, there is an emerging Merchistonian community over there, so get hold of Nick here should you be lucky enough to find yourself, ice cold beer in hand, by the Caribbean Sea.

Now to rugby: Merchistonians also took part in the British Universities' Rugby Trophy final last week at Surrey Sports Ground. Two on each team! For more information (and a post-match picture of bright, flushed faces), click here.

However, if you're finding yourself bracing against the elements in Edinburgh, do not despair. Michael Billinghurst (85-90) has launched 181 Delicatessen, a brand new Bruntsfield hub for delicious products. Do make sure to pop in and show your support.

For parents considering Merchiston as their boys' school, the next Information Morning will take place on Saturday 13 September at 10am. You'll be looking round the School and meeting the Headmaster and his wife, Barbara, as well as teaching staff and pupils, not to mention hearing a few of our musicians. If you would like to attend, please either follow this link or RSVP here.

Speaking of the Headmaster: for those of you who are on social media, you will know already of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. I think you know what's coming next. If you do not, I urge you to click the link here anyway - you won't regret it.

That's it for now. Until next week!

Kind regards

Amy
