"Merchistonians Around the World"

Dear Merchistonians and Friends

Merchistonian Global Business Network

Luke Morrow (07-09)
, Daryll Morrow (08-10) and Rory McAusland (08-10) are helping to introduce a Merchistonian Global Business Network with the vision to connect Merchistonians from all over the world. The aims of the group are: to provide a platform for business development, link university students/graduates with established Merchistonians in business, and to provide opportunities for members to connect with business leaders who are keen to mentor and nurture the next generation of Merchistonian leaders. We also encourage parents to get involved as they are very much a part of the Merchiston family! There will be further communications soon; any interested mentors please get in touch

Please click here to join the new LinkedIn group.

A World Away in Experience

Peter Macdonald (57-62)
spends a lot of time in Papua New Guinea; he is the president of Australian Doctors International, an aid agency that sends volunteer doctors into remote PNG to lead health patrols to health centres and aid posts.

"I started the organisation 16 years ago and have just returned from visiting some of our projects there as well as "pressing the flesh" of the government leaders such as the PM and Minister of Health. It's our contribution to a needy neighbour which is struggling to provide even basic services."

Here is a photo of Peter practising at one of the clinics - the child pictured has malaria.

China Connect

Greig Sharp (07-17)
recently met Chris Lynn, the new Headmaster of Merchiston Castle International School, Shenzhen. Greig is studying International Relations with Mandarin at Nottingham Ningbo University in China for three years. Greig hosted the third session of the Ningbo Foreigners Mandarin Competition, proudly wearing his Merchistonian tie.

"UNNC student Greig Sharp from the UK co-hosted the competition in Chinese. His excellent speaking skills and professional appearance left a deep impression on the attendees" [University of Nottingham Ningbo China's website]

If you are in China, Greig would love to hear from you, get in touch

Scottish Curling Men's Champions

Hammy McMillan (04-10)
and Grant Hardie (05-10) were part of Team Mouat who won the Scottish Curling Championship final, big congratulations to them. The Sportsmanship Award was won by Grant, an extra well done! Team Mouat will play Team GB to determine who represents Scotland in the World Championships in Vegas in a few weeks.

Tickets for the World Playoff at Dewars Centre, Perth from 3-4 March are available to buy here.

Are you ready for an action-packed day of rugby and excitement on Saturday 9 June?

The day will kick off with a touch tournament between Merchistonians, Accies and Watsonians, followed by the annual Academicals v Merchistonians match. Since this game was returned to the fixture list, Accies have been triumphant, but not this year. 2018 WILL be the year that we take home the trophy!  Click here for more information.
