'Easter Hoppenings'

Dear Merchistonians and Friends

The departure of the boys for their Easter break will mean the campus falls silent, but not for long as the School becomes home to the International Harp Festival next week!

Sport

The Merchiston 1V Tennis Team were somewhat tired but elated last week when they won silver at the Worlds Schools' Championship Tennis in Brazil!  Congratulations to them all!

The Merchistonian v School annual shooting match took place last Saturday, in which Richard Dodds (82-86) competed against his son. The team were on a high when I met them for lunch after a win at the clays. However, the tables turned when it was time for the rifle shooting competition with the boys winning by 47 points!  For a full update click here.

Did anyone see Roger Baird's (73-78) interview in the Scotsman this week? If you missed it you can find out more on the Twickenham legacy Roger wanted to end here.  It is worth a read!

Not only has Zach Mercer (13-15) made it into Opta's 'Team of the Tournament' but he was named 'Opta Player of the Tournament'. Well done Zach!

A reminder to anyone in the area that the Merchistonian Golf Team will be competing against Harrow in their first round in the Halford Hewitt on Thursday 6 April. Follow @MerchiHHgolf on Twitter for live updates.

A spot has just become available for the Easter Multi-Sports Camp on 10-14 April, contact Louise here if you would like to snap it up.

MRFC have just announced the date of their annual Merchistonian v Leavers touch rugby match - Thursday 5 May. More details to follow.

The London Scottish Schools Golf Club match is taking place on 27 June 2017. If anyone would like to be part of a Merchiston team, find out more here.

Merchiston Memories

Graham McConnochie (46-50) has never returned to Merchiston since leaving the gates in 1950 but has been in touch this week to share some memories of times with good School friend Hugh Laughland (45-48), who sadly passed away in January. Read about Graham's School memories, how the friends kept in touch with letters written in Morse Code and their trip to Antarctica in 2008 here.  Graham would love to hear from anyone from the '46 intake, please do get in touch.

Merchistonian Club

Would you be interested in getting involved in the Club? Are you a merchandise expert? Do you have events experience? We are reaching out, if you would like to help let me know

This will be the last news update for three weeks.  Whatever you're doing over Easter, I hope you have a good break and do not eat too much chocolate.

Kind regards

Gill
