Dear Merchistonians and Friends
The month of May is upon us and with it, the anticipation of summer. The School was looking idyllic first thing this morning against the clear blue skies.
A big thank you to Paul Skipworth (parent) for presenting at today's Business Breakfast, an impressive career history and not to mention completing the Marathon des Sables, or equivalent 250km race, eight times! Also thanks to Jenny and Steve at Belted Burgers, this proved to be a fantastic venue. Click here to view photo gallery.
Our next BB will be on Friday 30 June at The Rutland with Graham Millar from Gilson Gray covering the important topic of data protection. An opportunity for you to learn more about the GDPR and the ePrivacy Regulations - know your rights and what it means for every business. More details to follow soon.

Iain Brechin (79-84), James Anderson (83-88) and Patrick Costello (01-09) are looking for two more Merchistonians to make up their 2017 Bisley shooting team, from Thursday 13 July at 5pm. Please get in touch with Iain if you can help make up the numbers. There is a BBQ after and competitors can borrow kit and rifles, and even stay the night if they like!
This is another shout out for any budding curlers. Thank you to those who have been in touch showing an interest in forming a Merchistonian team to take part in the Edinburgh Former Pupils' League - we are still short of a 15 person pool, can you help fill the remaining places? Find out more here.
Current pupil, Chris E has been signed to play for the Middle Tennessee men's tennis squad in 2018. Chris came to Merchiston to work with David Brewer and Merchiston's Tennis Academy when he was 13. He became the U16 indoor champion in 2014 before winning the Scottish Open singles and doubles title in the U18 division a couple years later. Watch this space!
The Glasgow 1XV won the BUCS (British University and Colleges) Trophy final against Edinburgh. The game was played at Bath University on finals day. Benjamin Kenderdine (09-15), 3rd from the left, scored one of the tries in the final. Another Merchistonian in the team is Rob Dickson (04-12) (wearing the blue scrum cap). The team were victorious against Manchester, Leicester and Exeter to reach the final! A great advert for Scottish rugby.
Tom Diggle (08-16) has won the Men's BUCS small bore outdoor championship and with a score of 776 out of a possible 800, he has smashed his personal best! Tom hopes that this will allow him to go and compete in the European University Games this summer.
James McDiarmid (07-13) now competes in the Junior British Rally Championship after his team built their own Ford Fiesta R2 National car from scratch. Read the story here.
For those up-and-coming golf stars, there are still spaces left on the Golf Academy Workshop on 21 May and the Merchiston Summer Golf Camp from 30 July-4 August.
