John was visiting from San Francisco with his wife Cherry. Having not been back to the school for 20 years, John was surprised at how much the school had changed and was impressed with the new facilities.
Having been a punishable offence during his time at Merchiston, John was keen to stand on the Gibson steps without fear of being caught.
Whilst touring, John bumped into Nick Blair our School Chaplain who instantly recognised the name. Nick was able to show John some of the archive material on his father and uncles from the war memorial and sparked some fascinating memories.
John and Cherry are now off on a train tour of East Scotland before heading to England to meet up with relatives and we hope the good weather continues for the rest of their visit.
