Dear Merchistonians and Friends,
Well, what a week it's been. After two years of deliberation, campaigns and promises, Scotland has answered with a
No. Whatever your thoughts were on the issue, I hope the aftermath of this decision is peaceful and that both Scotland and Merchiston continue to flourish as part of the United Kingdom.
The world keeps turning and, with it, the wonderful news that John Jeffrey (72-77), famed British Lion and Chairman of the International Rugby Board, has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship to The Moredun Foundation! This is a great achievement
and I'm sure you'll join me in congratulating him warmly. Click
here for more information.
Whilst we're on the subject of rugby, I'm aware that a few of you are itching to get your hands on some
6 Nations tickets for 2015. Rest assured, I will be announcing our links for you to book your tickets early next week.
If perchance you find yourself near Geneva this weekend, you may be interested to hear that there is an
Independent Schools Show at Le Richemond Hotel. Should you or someone you know be considering placing a child at Merchiston, do pop by and talk to us. If this is something that would appeal to you, do register
Finally - this week has shown more than ever that there are no guarantees in this world. Our younger boys have little idea of what life has in store for them once they leave these gates. With this in mind, we have a
Careers 'Speed Dating' service taking place on Thursday 6 November. I would ask any local Merchistonians who would like to engage with our Shell youngsters (aged 14) to come forward and take part. Do let me know
here if this intrigues you.
Were you excited to join the world of work, or did you hold your breath with nervous excitement? It isn't all about working
9 to 5. Let me know your first experiences of entering the workplace. Any lasting memories?
Until next week, I bid you adieu.
