With my last couple of newsletters having, hopefully, engaged you in whisky and walking, I now turn my attention to other national events. I might mention that we're coming to the end of
British Sandwich Week, or that this is also
National Smile Month. I'm sure the latter is not too difficult in this glorious weather. Wherever you are in the world, I trust you're also enjoying sunnier spells?
To golf: As promised last week, here is the East vs. West
Following on from that, Michael Ferndale (86-92) requests another pair to make up a full team for this year's Denham golfing event on
Tuesday 17 June. Please contact me here if you would like to take part.
To cricket: Kyle Smith (02-10) has informed me that a Merchistonian T20 match against the School is to be played on 23 May. Any interested parties who are keen to get involved should contact Kyle
here. For inspiration, here are some images of
vintage Merchistonian cricketers.
To rugby: Congratulations must surely go to David Cherry (02-09), who signed his first professional contract with London Scottish FC. A superb achievement! Read the news
I'd like to take this opportunity to mention that rugby great, Roger Baird (73-78), is training to take part in Riding for the Walking Wounded. If any of you wish to donate to this excellent cause, please click
Another Merchistonian has made the news this week: Matthew Gray (79-85) has formed a new legal firm and is already making headlines with the level of talent onboard. Read the full story
Lastly, we are nearing the end of the month; this means that the
Edinburgh Business Breakfast has begun to call its siren song. This month's speaker is current parent Peter Nicholson, who will be talking about the 'Four Deadly Cultural Sins'. Do pop along for a top-notch breakfast and some fascinating insights
from 8am-9am at Indigo Yard.
Take care of yourselves, gentlemen, and don't forget to
be nice to nettles!
