'Let's give it our best shot'

Dear Merchistonians and Friends

It was fantastic to see the pupils enjoying the careers convention this week. A big thank you to Oli Green (99-07) from Gilson Gray, James Fearon (02-07) from Aberdeen Asset Management, and Will Lindsay (87-94) from McInroy Wood who shared career possibilities with the boys. Have a look at the photos here.

Fraser Brown (01-07) speaks out about his depression after two years of injuries; the social and game aspect of rugby is helping to pull him through.  Watch the BBC interview here.

Merchistonian Events

Don't forget the Club AGM will be held on Monday 13 March from 6.30pm in The Old Library.  Please let me know if you are coming along.

Saturday 18 March sees the Clay and Rifle Day take place at Cluny Clays in Fife. I know the guys are looking forward to the curry and it's not too late to book!  If you would like to join Richard Macmillan (81-87) and the team please let Richard know.

Richard Bent (76-81), Senior Lecturer in Business Enterprise and Management at QMU recommends going to see an evening of short films and storytelling at Queen Margaret University on 23 March at 6.30pm. These are by the American author, producer and director Rick Spencer.  Read the full story here.

The next Edinburgh Business Breakfast will take place on Friday 5 May (instead of the end of June) at Belted Burgers with Paul Skipworth (current parent). Paul will share business and brand building lessons learnt from his past operational and investment roles in companies such as Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, L Capital and Glenmorangie. Find out more here.

Would you like to speak at our next Business Breakfast on Friday 30 June? Get in touch with me to let me know

Something for your sons - The Summer Rugby and Golf Camps are available to book, offering both residential and day options.  What better way to improve their game!? This year's lead coaches are Roddy Deans and David Blair for rugby, and Alan Murdoch and Kurt Mungall for golf.  To find out more and to book, click here

Curling

Do we have any budding curlers out there? Watsonians, Stewarts Melville and Heriot's are all part of the Edinburgh Former Pupils' League.  The league is looking for another school to join. Click here to find out more.

Merchandise

We have a new stock of Merchistonian jumpers in.  Take a look at the merchandise on offer here.

Have a wonderful time tonight at the London Pre-Calcutta Cup Dinner and remember to send me photos!

I look forward to seeing you at The Merchiston Sevens at the School on Sunday from 11am.

Kind regards
