"Farewell for now - Merchistonian News"

Dear Merchistonians and Friends

MFC v Accies

"It was a cracking day down at Accies and, although the hard track allowed for a fast game, it would certainly go on to take its toll on the players! The squad of boys who turned up to represent the Club were superb and each one put in a great shift to show off the best of Merchistonian rugby."

Freddie Main, Director of Merchistonian FC

Scottish EDGE Awards

Great to see Simon Hannah (88-95), judging the winners of the main category at the Scottish EDGE Awards. The Scottish EDGE Awards are a competition aimed at identifying and supporting Scotland's up-and-coming, innovative, high-growth potential entrepreneurial talent.

Well done also to Daryll Morrow (08-10) and Luke Morrow (07-09) who secured £10,000 for their recruitment platform Udrafter ® as one of the 'Young EDGE' winners.

After the awards Daryll sent a message to the Merchistonian Global Business Network: "Just because we have all left the Castle Gates, doesn't mean we can't make great things happen within business, and help one another. Whether it be some form of mentoring, business development or even help with relocating. The power of this network is something I hope we all start to utilise more, and that's my vision for the MGBN."

Pedal for Prostate

Andrew Auld (86-91)
and Robert Auld (91-96) are underway in their attempt to cycle from England's most easterly point to Ireland's most westerly point. Covering 610 miles over five straight days, the brothers set off on 18 June and are arriving in County Kerry on 22 June.

Despite a collision on Day 1, the journey is progressing well and their father Ronnie Auld (58-63) is keeping a blog of the journey. You can stay up to date with how they are getting on here: www.ronnieauld.com

Andrew and Robert are raising money for Prostate Cancer UK and you can donate to this worthy cause via their fundraising page: https://www.justgiving.com/companyteams/C2C2C2C

Thanks for Visiting - Brian Dole (88-89)

Brian was visiting Merchiston for the first time in 30 years having studied here for a year on an ESU scholarship.

Flying in from Arizona, Brian and his family were in Edinburgh for 4 days before heading off for the rest of their European adventure. It was great to see you back!

Merchistonian Pre-Calcutta Cup Dinner

London Rep, Will Biggart (94-01), has secured a great venue for the Pre-Calcutta Cup Dinner on 15 March 2019. The dinner will be held at Temper - Neil Rankin's (93-94) London restaurant. Booking will open soon!

This is my final weekly newsletter for a while, as Tuesday saw the arrival of your new Club Secretary Daniel Pratt, who will cover for me whilst I am on maternity leave.  Daniel is coming to us from REHAU Ltd and he very much looks forward to meeting you at future events.

Best wishes

Gill, Merchistonian Club Secretary
