''Newsletter - Flurry of Activity Before the Break"

Dear Merchistonians and Friends

Thanks for Visiting

Raphael Hermann (08-10), his wife Laura and his baby son popped in this week for a quick tour while they were visiting from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.  Raphael is finishing his studies in archaeology before he looks for his first archaeologist role.

Annual Dinner Photos

The winner of this year's Merchistonian Award is Professor Ian Duncan (61-66), who came all the way from the USA to be presented with the award.  With a beautiful view of the castle, good food, and most importantly, the best company, we all had a wonderful time.  Take a look at the photo album here.

Mental Health Matters

Fraser Brown (01-07), Glasgow and Scotland hooker, visited the School on Wednesday 22 November.  He chatted to the pupils about his career path and about the mental health challenges that he has faced.  Read the write-up from the evening here.

Calum MacDonald (14-16) is studying business management and is looking for a one year placement for his third year in university (placement to start September 2018).  He is looking for anything in marketing, auditing, HR, accounting or general management to keep his search wide.  Can the Merchistonian community help?  Please reply if you can.

Scottish Flavour

With the signing ceremony in Shenzhen for the new Merchiston Castle International School, Shenzhen, what could be a better atmosphere than the pipes? Thanks to Jacqui Donaldson (parent) for kindly organising the piper.

Merchistonians v Staff Touch Rugby

Have fun if you are going to the Merchistonians v Staff (touch) rugby match.  It's on Monday at 6.00pm on the astro. Email rugby@merchistonians.co.uk if you are playing, and come ready changed, alternatively come along to cheer the teams on!

Finally, Michael Ferndale (86-92), Neil Murray (86-88) and Alasdair Hay (89-91) enjoyed some terrific weather at the St Andrews Day Greensomes, and, do remember that the rugby supporters' breakfast tomorrow has been cancelled.  We'll be in touch when we know the date of the next breakfast or lunch.
