Dear Merchistonians and Friends,
Ah, September. A gloriously esoteric month; this last week alone, staff and boys alike have enjoyed thick fog, sunburn, strong winds and light rain. What else would you need as you're easing back into Merchiston's routine?
To rugby: the Rugby Supporters' Lunches are now available for booking. On
8 November, Merchiston's 1XV will go head to head against Durham's finest and, on
29 November, we will be facing off against Fettes. To attend the 2-course lunch from 12.30 onwards, please click the links provided. I hope to see you there!
To golf: Calum Hill (11-13) has been doing wonderfully at The Sam Hall Intercollegiate. Calum's progress really has gone from strength to strength; we'll be sure to keep you all posted on his successes. Take a look at the link
here for more information on his current competition.
I'd also like to take the time to mention that we're receiving plenty of interest for the Merchistonian Golf Day at Kings Acre. If you'd like to take part, it's best to get your team in quickly - just follow this
A reminder to all that the Edinburgh Business Breakfast is happening on 26 September. We're kicking it off with a tremendous talk on architecture by Roderick Binns (85-92), alongside a lovely breakfast and hot, strong coffee. Get yourselves
Finally, you may not know that Forth Road Bridge will be lighting up the skies tomorrow, in honour of its 50th birthday. Amongst a wealth of other delights, there will be 2,014 torch-bearers forming a river of fire across the River Forth. For
those of you planning on attending, note that Merchiston's very own band,
Bwani Junction, will be playing! Take a few photos for posterity and send them across to me - I'll pop the best ones on the website.
Do enjoy the weekend. Remember: on this day in 1501, Michelangelo began working on his
statue of David. Everything happens one day at a time - so how will you be spending your weekend?
